Out With 2009, In With 2010
I think it’s safe to say that the majority of folks, particularly in the legal profession, are glad to see 2009 go. From law firm rounds of mass layoffs to reduced salaries to lesser partner profits to law firm closures and less business, it’s hard to imagine a year in recent memory worse for the Philly legal community than 2009.
But thankfully, it’s now 2010. A year that offers some hope, though cautious optimism is probably more characteristic of how people feel about it. Things certainly can’t seem to get much worse (right??).
In addition to the end of the year, it’s the end of the decade. For most of us, it’s when we finished law school and started our legal careers. For better or worse, it’s been a decade that has been important in our lives and careers. Things don’t always happen how we would envision them (I remember thinking ten years ago how by 2010, I would be driving a flying car. . . ). It’s difficult for most of us to say with certainty where we will be in our careers in the next ten years. But if nothing else, it will be a challenge.
Happy New Year!
