City Cell Phone While Driving Ban Enforced

December 1, 2009

Like many of you, I love to multi-task to try to maximize.  Spending time working out at home?  Sound like a perfect opportunity to also try to catch up on shows online or On Demand.  Walking to and from work?  You can pass the time away by listening to your mp3 player.  Watching the game on TV?  You can easily do it while opening up mail, paying bills, eating dinner, etc.  Driving somewhere?  That’s where the line is being drawn on multi-tasking.

Effective today, Philadelphia is enforcing the ban on the use of cell phones while driving.  This law was unanimously passed back in April.  No texting or using the handheld phone, etc. while driving or even riding a bike, skateboard, or scooter.  The only exceptions appear to be using it in an emergency or if it’s a hand-free device (such as presumably when you use your headset or the speakerphone).

So yes, while I can easily just have a headset to take or make calls in the car, it will be a tough adjustment to avoid the temptation to text or respond to texts while driving.  But, I guess it’s for the greater good for everyone.  I just hope that a voice-activated application that will translate what I dictate as a text is available soon. . .

Buy what thou hast no need of and ere long thou shalt sell thy necessities.
