Weekend: Autumn Eats and Ales
After fighting it for a month, I can no longer ignore the increasing crispness of the air. Summer’s over, and I’m ready finally to embrace the fall and all that comes with it—from sweaters and hats to pumpkin- and apple-flavored everything. In the epicurean wonderland that is Philadelphia, autumn’s arrival of course means seasonal noshes and beers (it’s hops harvest time!). Gourmands should check out this list of timely dishes, like the chestnut and sheep’s milk ricotta cannelloni at Barbuzzo and the butternut squash tart at the Farm and Fisherman. And to top it off, go with a selection from Philadelphia Brewing Company’s broad roster of seasonal brews; my favorite is the aptly named Harvest from the Hood, a collaboration with Greensgrow Farm and O’Neal’s Pub made from locally grown hops. Mmmmmm….
